Amir Mirza

A teacher at heart, Amir has been around in the professional world for over two decades. Born and raised in Karachi, got his design education from Parsons School of Design, NY, in 1998. Forever the learner, 13 years after studying design he went back to earn a masters degree in Psychology, and recently earned another masters in Art Education in 2021. His education in Art/Design and Psychology creates a unique yet a high-quality mix that is a bit rare to say the least. Over the years he has taught at IBA, Karachi University, SZABIST, Habib University and currently is Asst. Professor in the department of Communication Design, Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, where he manages Pakistan’s only Interaction Design major.

Besides teaching, he has an active personal design practice where he has designed advertising campaigns, books, magazines, branding, apps, etc. He has been actively involved in training individuals and groups for more than a decade. Currently, through a grant from USEFP, he is training faculty from 4 different universities across Pakistan and mentoring 2 design residencies. He also provides professional skill upgrading trainings of professionals working in the UX/UI field.

He believes that the maddening pace of life these days has put kind of pressures on an average person the like of which were rare just a few years back. The demands at work as well as home, the digital lifestyle and the not-so social media interactions have created an immense amount of stress resulting in low productivity and inhibited

creativity. To address these issues he conducts trainings in Therapeutic Art affording an opportunity to get out of a constant ‘doing’ mode, literally be in the moment, be present and develop the capacity to be more mindful and conscious of oneself both in the personal and professional spheres.

His workshops in design thinking and creative practices allow participants to solve problems, enhance critical analysis skills, utilize responsible decision making and out of the box solutions. Over the years he has worked with clients such as GSK, Getz Pharma, Dawn Group, Hashoo Group, Chen One, Pakistan Tobacco, Institute of Architects Pakistan, etc. In his free time he does calligraphy, grows vegetables and reads.
